Social Action at B'nai Emunah

Monthly Community Service at the San Francisco Food Bank

Previous Slide 1/11 Next

A group of volunteers from B'nai Emunah come to the San Francisco Food Bank every month, as part of the food bank's Apple Core Program.  Just show up, and we'll put you to work.

There's work for all ages, even for a four years old.  We do whatever needs to be done, including sorting cans and bagging macaroni.

Food Banking is the last Sunday of the month from 9 AM to 11 AM.

The location is:

San Francisco Food Bank
900 Pennsylvania Avenue
San Francisco CA 94107
415-282-1900

For more information please e-mail bonnie@bnaiemunahsf.org or call the synagogue 415-664-7373.

Bring Packaged Food to the Synagogue

Congregation B’nai Emunah collects food year-round for the San Francisco Food Bank.  Please remember those who are less fortunate and hungry, and bring a can or box of nonperishable food when you come to services. Glass items are not acceptable due to chance of breakage.

Project Homeless Connect

Project Homeless Connect is a national best practice model that originated in San Francisco. Every other month over 1000 community volunteers partner with city government, non-profits and the private sector to provide a one-stop shop of health and human services for homeless San Franciscans.

B'nai Emunah members, including Rabbi Mark, have partcipated in the last three annual Jewish Volunteer Days at Project Homeless Connect.  These events were held in the Bill Graham Auditorium and provided food, goods, and services to hundreds of homeless people.  For 2011, Rabbi Mark would like to get a group together for all day, half day or even just one hour. Contact the office if you would like to join us!

Other Social Action Projects

We are involved in several other social action efforts.  Stay tuned for more information.
